Former Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Tom Moody has said that top players will adapt to conditions in USA during the T20 World Cup despite it being a new destination for most of them. The upcoming tournament will be held across the West Indies and the USA and while most players have the experience of playing in the Caribbean, most of them haven’t played in the US.

For some players like Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Lockie Ferguson and Adam Zampa, who have been part of the Major League Cricket, it will not be a big deal but for others, especially Indians, it would be an entirely different experience.

Moody was not unmindful of the challenge a new destination like USA can offer to the sides, who otherwise might be familiar with conditions in the West Indies. He said that the teams and players will have to adapt to a non-regular cricketing venue like the US.

“Many people have played in the Caribbean but what would be presented in the US will be one of many different things,” Moody said during an interaction organised by ILT20 team Desert Vipers.

“Talking about world-class players, they have played in all sorts of conditions and situations. I believe the top players and teams would adapt pretty quickly, whether it’s chasing down a total over 200 or even low-scoring ones,” Moody said.

The ninth edition of the marquee ICC event is scheduled to be held in the West Indies and the USA in June and most of the teams, including India, have already finished their T20I assignments.

“The IPL (set to be played between March-May), along with any other T20 tournament, like the ILT20, is important for any player to be performing because every home team is looking at the performances of all their players in these tournaments because of the high-quality cricket in these (leagues),” Moody said.

The Vipers play their next match against the Dubai Capitals on Friday.
