The annual U.S. News & World Report list of the best colleges in the nation is out, and one Vermont school made the list, while several others were recognized among liberal arts colleges.
The publication releases its ranking of the best overall colleges every year based on several factors, including academic reputation, cost of attendance and return on investment.
The University of Vermont made the national list, tying at No. 121.
Several colleges in the New England area scored high on the list, such as Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University.

One Vermont colleges made U.S. News & World Report’s national list of best universities this year. The University of Vermont tied at No. 121.
However, although more Vermont schools didn’t make the national list, several were named among the best national liberal arts colleges. Here’s how they fared on that list:

U.S. News & World Report determines its annual best colleges list by evaluating nearly 1,500 colleges and universities using more than a dozen categories of “academic quality,” the publication said in a release.
More than half of a school’s ranking is calculated based on outcome measures like graduation rates and post-graduation earning rates, according to the release.
The rest of the score is calculated using data like faculty salaries, student-to-faculty ratio and standardized test scores.
