Argentina’s President Javier Milei is embarking on a significant diplomatic journey to the United States this week, aiming to engage in discussions with prominent figures in the American tech industry.

Milei’s spokesman, Manuel Adorni, disclosed on Monday that the libertarian-leaning president is scheduled to meet with key executives from major tech giants, including Google, Meta, Apple, and OpenAI during his visit.

Milei’s itinerary involves a series of crucial encounters, commencing with his departure from Argentina on Monday, Reuters reports.

Upon arrival in San Francisco, he will engage in a flurry of engagements, beginning with a scheduled meeting Tuesday evening with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.

Later in the week, on Wednesday, Milei is slated to deliver a comprehensive 45-minute address at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution, renowned for its advocacy of limited government principles.

Subsequently, he will confer with Stanford President Richard Saller and Hoover Institution Director Condoleezza Rice.

Engagement with Tech Titans

The Argentinian president’s agenda includes rendezvous with titans of the tech industry.

Scheduled meetings with Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet and Google, as well as Apple’s CEO Tim Cook, are set to transpire on Wednesday.

Additionally, Milei is expected to engage with over 30 entrepreneurs specializing in artificial intelligence (AI), according to Fox Business.

Later that evening, he is scheduled to meet with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

Javier Milei, whose political ideology aligns with anarcho-capitalism, rose to power on a platform advocating for significant government spending cuts to combat soaring inflation rates.

His administration’s approach emphasizes deregulation and reducing the overall size of government, symbolized by his conspicuous use of a chainsaw during his campaign.

Focus on Economic Reform and Investment

The Argentine president’s outreach to US tech companies is part of a broader strategy aimed at revitalizing Argentina’s economy.

Javier Milei seeks to attract investments from American firms, particularly in the tech sector, to drive economic reform efforts in his country.

Milei’s recent meeting with Tesla CEO Elon Musk in Texas underscores his commitment to fostering partnerships with leading figures in the tech industry.

Discussions between the two luminaries centered on potential collaborations involving lithium mining and initiatives to promote free-market principles, the Buenos Aires Herald noted.

Argentina boasts significant lithium reserves, ranking as the world’s third-largest producer of the metal.

Milei’s discussions with Musk regarding lithium mining highlight the strategic importance of this resource in the context of emerging technologies, particularly electric vehicles.

The meeting between Milei and Musk signifies a burgeoning relationship between the Argentine government and the tech magnate.

Javier Milei’s administration has demonstrated its willingness to collaborate with Musk’s enterprises, exemplified by granting SpaceX authorization to operate its Starlink satellite communications service in Argentina.

Following his engagements in the United States, Milei is slated to attend the inauguration of Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele in San Salvador on June 1.

This will mark Milei’s fourth trip to the United States since assuming office, underscoring his commitment to fostering international partnerships and promoting economic development in Argentina.

Javier Milei’s international itinerary includes engagements in Italy and Spain, where he will participate in a summit of G-7 nations and be honored by the Juan de Mariana Institute as part of Freedom Week, respectively.

These engagements reflect Milei’s proactive approach to international diplomacy and his commitment to advancing libertarian principles on the global stage.
