A sports betting bill that would have allowed horse racing fails in the Georgia Senate

(ATLANTA, Ga.) — In the Georgia Senate, a bill has been working its way through the system that would allow sports betting in the State of Georgia. SB-57 came to a floor vote today, where it was defeated 19-37.

A number of further bills on the topic are expected on the topic, bills that would need to pass before Monday’s Crossover Day. If bills aren’t able to clear at least one chamber in the General Assembly before Crossover Day, then the hurdle before further consideration becomes much higher.

WSB investigative reporter Sandra Parrish contributed to reporting for this story.
